FAQs

What is the first step to get started?

Send us an email through [email protected] and one of our team members will set up a call with you.

Our programs are filled with real world examples from the environment and society in Kenya. Ultimately, we challenge students to translate these experiences to a situation where it is meaningful for them. This will help build their confidence as a leader, learner and member of society. Check out here to see how we build our programs together with teachers and program coordinators at your school.

Moyo Moja delivers programs with the highest safety standards in place. All our team members are first aid certified and we work with ratios of maximum 8 students to one educator. All locations and vendors in our program are evaluated quarterly to maintain the highest safety standards.

Not much. We are keen to learn as much as possible about your school, learning objectives and students before we start designing the program. Often this takes two or three meetings that we prepare for you. We offer support to present the program to your senior leadership, parents and students and feel comfortable leading all parts of this program.

Absolutely. Teachers are an important part of the program and can increase the impact of our delivery with your students. After all, you know them best. During the design of the program, we will specifically address the role teachers have in the program.

What projects will students work on?

All projects are organized with the environment and community in mind. The exact project often depends on the season and the needs of the community at that time. Once we are closer to the departure date we can share the specific projects for that program. Examples of projects are: planting of indigenous trees in the local environment; deworming goats; preparing the deployment and tracking of motion sensor cameras; marine wildlife conservation, and many others.

What makes our programs stand out from others is the connection participants make with communities and the outdoors. To create time and headspace for that, the use of electronics (including phones) is not allowed during (many) parts of the program. This means that for long periods, participants are purposefully disconnected from their phones. It takes some getting used to, but it is a part of the program that participants really appreciate.

In the case of an emergency with the participant or his/her family, we are always able to call home or be contacted through our offices.

For all of the locations we visit, we have emergency plans in place that include predictable treatments for emergencies. Should students need additional care, we will transport them to the nearest medical facility or Nairobi using Amref.

According to Shortlist, FSD Africa and Boston Consulting Group in 2024, the green economy is projected to produce up to 3.3mln jobs in Africa spread over 12 different value chains. Students typically leave our programs with a deep and moving understanding of their natural surroundings. Through this understanding, they are able to make a more informed choice on what career to pursue be it as an entrepreneur, scientist or a policy maker.

Besides these benefits, we include activities where students have space to reflect on their experiences, the impact on their own community, and work out how they can make a difference as responsible members of society.

What will the food and accommodation be like during the trip?

All our programmes include a mix of local and international cuisine. If you have any dietary preferences and/or needs, please make sure to confirm this with our team before you leave on your trip. In Kenya we are able to cater for most dietary requirements.
